Email od prezidenta Pakistanskeho Alpskeho klubu

Dear Mr Peter Skorik,

Thank you very much for your mail. It is unfortunate that this incident occurred, and for the first time with us the mountaineers which has been condemned by all and sundry in strongest words. Govt of Pakistan has now undertaken security measures to safeguard all the visitors to the area. Further as you are aware that Diamer Base Camp of Nanga Parbat is situated in a valley at about 4200 metre which is quite remote and less populated which was one of the reasons that these terrorists could penetrate. In case of Diran peak which is situated in Nagar valley far away from Nanga Parbat, the area is thickly populated and the people are not extremists. Further security to all the mountaineers have been further beefed up and all in the Government are more prepared to protect and provide the needed security, therefore it is safe to travel to and climb Diran peak. I, therefore urge upon you that you do not cancel your planned climb and come to Pakistan as per your schedule.

Army has nothing to do with Diran peak, they are only trying to catch these terrorists in Chilas area which as you are aware is far away from Diran. I am in touch with your tour operator M/S Blue Sky and will ensure that all concerned government officials in Islamabad and in Gilgit Baltistan facilitate your move from Islamabad to Diran and your climb on the peak. I hope to meet you on your arrival at Islamabad.

Best wishes and regards

Manzoor Hussain, Lt Col. (Retd)
President,
Alpine Club of Pakistan,
